4th Fighter Group Operations
The 4th Fighter Group commenced operations on 2 October 1942 with a fighter sweep between Calais and Dunkirk. While primarily engaged in bomber escort duties, the 4th undertook a myriad of assignments during the war. In addition to fighter sweeps, some of the other missions to which they were tasked included airdrome strafing, ground and rail interdiction, Air-Sea Rescue, weather reconnaisance, R/T relay and PRU escort.
Select Missions from the OPS drop down menu to acess a listing of every mission in which the 4th particpated. At regular intervals we will make additional options available, detailing some of the more important missions in group history, like the Russia Shuttle mission in late June/early July 1944.
Other facets of the operations will be covered as well. We have every available MACR (Missing Air Crew Report) issued by the group, and our ultimate goal is to present them in this section.
