                                                    The 4th Fighter Group

Picture

Based in Debden, Essex, the 4th Fighter Group was the highest scoring fighter group in the USAAF, destroying 1,016 enemy aircraft on the ground in and in the skies over Europe.  The group flew Spitfires, Thunderbolts and Mustangs while serving with the 2nd Air Division's 65th Fighter Wing - part of the "Mighty 8th Air Force."  Originally comprised of the three American RAF Eagle Squadrons, the 4th was the first fighter group activated in a theater of war, the first to escort bombers over Berlin and led the first England to Russia shuttle mission.

A Note To Our Visitors

Thank you for visiting the site.  The site you are visiting today is just the foundation for what the site will ultimately become.  In an effort to get an official web presence for the 4th Fighter Group and its Association as quickly as possible, we chose to 'go live' with the site despite having many sections that still require work.  We ask for your patience as we "fill in the blanks."  In the meantime, if you cannot find information for which you are looking or just have a question or comment, please use the Contact Us form located on the right of the navigation bar to let us know what you're thinking or click on Forum and follow the link to the 4th Fighter Group Forum.

To get started, select an area of the site you'd like to explore from the navigation bar above.  Click on the subject  to access the main page of that section, or choose an option from the subsections by placing your pointer over the subject heading to access the pull down menu.
