Edward B. Richie Collection

Edward B. Richie
Edward B. Richie was a Chief Warrant Officer who initially served at Debden with the 45th Service Squadron, and later with the 864th Air Engineering Squadron when his former unit was deactivated and absorbed by the 438th Air Service Group. As the squadron's Shop Superintendent, Ed was responsible for twelve shops and the four Mobile Repair Units. In addition to servicing aircraft, his shops turned out hundreds projects for the base including dance floors, a Chaplain’s Cross made out of .50 caliber ammunition and three base bars. A shutterbug with a keen eye, Ed's photographs have appeared in dozens of books on the 8th Air Force in general, and more specifically on the 4th Fighter Group. Many of the color photos you've seen of Debden and the 4th were taken by CWO Richie. Original captions from photos used when possible, and appear in quotations.
